Training for a Masters degree in Homeopathay (M.Tech.Hom)  involves a five year full-time study at the University of Johannesburg and the Technical University of Natal. As part of the training, a research project (thesis) must be completed. Both universities have clinics where fifth year students complete their internship and treat patients, under supervision of qualified Homeopathic practitioners.

To legally practice as a Homeopath in South Africa, practitioners must be registered with Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA). Practitioners can also register with the medical aid council. Most medical aids do recognise homeopathy and will pay for consultation (and medication) from the savings pocket.
