Frequently Asked Questions
What to expect during a Homeopathic consultation
With the initial consultation, I take an in-depth case study and medical history, with a special focus on the main complaints (disease/symptoms) followed by a physical examination. To aid me in diagnosing the disease and finding the underlying cause I may use some extra diagnostic tools such as Vega testing, Nutritional Live Blood Analysis, and Iridology. If extra diagnostic tests are needed, I refer patients for further laboratory blood tests or investigations.
I treat each patient as an individual person, not a disease. We need to recognize that each person is biochemically, psychologically, and emotionally unique, and that a disorder or disease process does not just affect a specific organ or tissue. It affects the whole person on all levels, with corresponding shifts in metabolic and biochemical function. This results in the various symptoms and signs of disease that each person expresses differently. The assessment and investigation into these imbalances are critical for accurate diagnosis and to formulate a personalized and effective treatment plan.
How long is a consultation?
45 to 60 minutes
Is Homeopathic medication safe for pregnant or breastfeeding moms, babies and elderly?
Yes, when prescribed appropriately by a qualified practitioner, Homeopathic medication is safe to be used by everybody.
Can I continue taking my prescription medication?
Yes, Homeopathic medication is safe to take with most prescription medication. It is important to tell your Homeopathic practitioner of all the medication that you are taking, as some herbal and vitamin supplements might have interactions with certain medications, especially blood-thinning medication like Warfarin.
What is Nutritional Live Blood Analysis?
The analysis of live, unmodified capillary blood gives the patient and me a glimpse into the internal environment of the patient’s body. It gives visual proof of how lifestyle, diet, and nutrition are affecting health. It provides valuable information about a great number of imbalances and health concerns.
Blood comes into contact with almost every cell in the body. It carries vital nutrients and oxygen to the cells and carries wastes away from the cells. If we understand why the blood is sick, we then understand why other cells in the body are sick. If we can improve the quality of the blood, we will be able to improve the quality of almost every cell in the body.
The process is fairly simple and not very invasive. I take a small drop of blood from the patient’s finger and look at it under high magnification using a specialized microscope. I can then analyze the unmodified live blood cells and plasma for microbial activities and anomalies that are usually not ordered in conventional laboratory blood testing. Various blood morphologies and abnormalities can be identified, which provide information on underlying imbalances, weaknesses, nutritional deficiencies, and the health priorities of the patient. I compare this information with the patient’s case history and other clinical data to understand the patient’s individual state of health. This helps me to formulate an appropriate course of natural treatment and lifestyle or dietary interventions.
It is important to note that Nutritional live blood analysis is not a diagnostic procedure to identify or diagnose a specific disease, but rather a tool that I use to demonstrate how lifestyle and dietary habits influence health and how appropriate adjustments can optimize health and prevent the onset of disease. When certain signs are observed in Nutritional live blood analysis, I will refer the patient for further laboratory blood tests and investigations.
What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a natural medical system, based on the principle of “like cures like”, where the body’s natural defense system is stimulated to cure the disease by itself. Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1845), was a German physician who developed this Homeopathic law. It is based on the observation that a raw substance is capable of causing symptoms in a healthy person, when diluted and potentized, this same substance can cure (not just suppress) those same symptoms in an ill patient. For example red onion makes your eyes water, that is why it is used as a remedy for hay fever and allergies. The key to successful homeopathic treatment is to identify the similarity between the effects of the original substance in healthy people and the pattern of illness in the individual who is sick. Homeopathy has the potential to treat almost any disease and is safe to be used in any age group.
What medication will be prescribed?
Usually Homeopathic medication (in a pillule or liquid drop form) or some herbal medication (in capsule, tablet or liquid drop form) will be dispensed. To correct any nutritional deficiencies some vitamins or minerals might be added to the prescription.
How do I take Homeopathic medication?
Ideally, Homeopathic medication should be taken on a clean palate, 10 minutes before or after eating, drinking brushing your teeth. Homeopathic drops are usually taken in a little bit (25ml) of water. Because the medication is absorbed through the mucous membranes in the mouth, it is ideal to hold the water in your mouth for a few seconds before swallowing. The pillules of sugar tablets should be dissolved under the tongue to ensure absorption of the remedy. Herbal medication and supplements should be taken with food, or as prescribed by the practitioner.
Will my medical aid pay for the consultation and medication?
Most medical aids do pay for Homeopathic consultation and remedies from the savings pocket option. I am registered at the BHF (Board of Health Funders/medical aid) but run a cash practice, which means you can claim your consultation and medication from your medical aid after settling your account with me first.

What is VEGA testing?
A Vega machine is a device that uses electrodermal testing to identify organ stress, food sensitivities, allergies, and deficiencies in the body. The testing is similar to acupuncture but non-invasive and painless. It is based on electro-acupuncture where I use acupuncture points in the hands to measure the electro-magnetic function of the organs and the body’s response to various test substances (allergens). Vega testing cannot be used to diagnose disease, it is a helpful tool in finding the underlying cause of disease, assisting me to formulate an individualized treatment plan for the patient and monitor the effectiveness of the treatment and lifestyle changes.
